Smoky Elestial Quartz is a fascinating variety of quartz (SiO₂) known for its layered, skeletal-like structure, called elestialformation. Unlike typical single-point quartz, elestials develop through repeated growth cycles. As the crystal grows, periods of rapid formation alternate with pauses or slower growth, producing the distinctive “steps” or multiple layers visible in the crystal. These layers record the crystal’s formation history, much like tree rings record environmental changes over time.
The smoky coloration of this quartz comes from natural irradiation of aluminum impurities within the crystal lattice. Over time, exposure to natural radiation in the Earth causes the crystal to take on its characteristic brown to gray hue.
